As the month of September also known as the Suicide Prevention Month comes to a close, endeavour to ask yourself. What do you know about suicide? Have you lost someone to suicide? What have you heard about suicide? Some of these questions have been answered during this month, Some still pending without answers while other questions still linger on.
It is crucial to consider changing the narrative surrounding suicide. Throughout the month of September, different mental health practitioners across the world have focused on raising awareness, showing kindness, and speaking up about different mental health and suicide struggles. We ought to alter the way we perceive suicide, such as advocating for the decriminalization of suicide to enable individuals in distress to seek help openly, we must be understanding, compassionate, and provide assistance to those in need.
Changing the narrative surrounding suicide means being more open, showing empathy, and making sure help is available. By sharing personal stories, showing how mental health affects people, and supporting mental health services, we can help prevent more sad events.
Even though there are tough parts, there's also hope.
Every conversation, every bit of support, and every resource shared brings us closer to a future where mental health is important, and people feel brave enough to ask for help without feeling ashamed. Let's keep spreading awareness, lending a listening ear, and fighting for mental health resources in our communities. Together, we can change the narrative surrounding suicide with a message of strength, kindness, and hope.
